HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

In the same family for multiple generations, these highly productive farm properties were at one time part of the estate of David Davis. Davis was a United States Supreme Court Justice from 1862 to 1877 and a United States Senator from 1877 to 1883. Being a good friend and mentor to Abraham Lincoln, Davis also held the position of Lincoln’s campaign manager during the 1860 presidential election. Davis’s well known residence, The Davis Mansion; in Bloomington, IL, is now a National Historic Landmark. Upon his death in 1886, Davis was considered to be the largest landowner in Illinois.
